James Campbell Livingston - Partriarchal Blessing
Salt Lake City, Utah. August 5th, 1869
A blessing given by John Smith, Patriarch, upon the head of James Campbell Livingston. Son of Archibald Livingston and Helen (Connor) Livingston. Born December 2, 1833, at Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland.
Brother James; in the name of Jesus of Nazareth I place my hands upon thy head to bless you: and I ask God the Eternal Father for his Spirit on this occasion, to indite thy blessing. Thou art of the House of Israel, and numbered among sons of Zion. You, thou art of the tribe of Ephraim. And if thou wilt continue faithful thou shalt yet be an instrument in the hands of the Lord in doing much good in the Kingdom of God: and thou shalt also be a savior in thy Father's house, and shall have an inheritance hereafter on Mount Zion, the New Jerusalem.
And I say unto thee, listen unto the whisperings of the Still Small Voice of the Comforter and take him unto the Monitor which is with thee, and the Spirit of the Lord shall be with you day by day and dictate unto thee the path in which thou shalt walk, and give thee peace of mind and grace and strength sufficient for thy day. Thou art entitled thru thy lineage to the blessings of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, with the gifts of the New and Everlasting Covenant. And thou shalt be blessed in thy endeavors to do good: and thou shalt have power over the Adversary and health and peace shall reign in thy habitation. The Lord knoweth thine Integrity: He hath heard thy petitions, and he hath also delivered thee out of the hands of the enemy, and the angel heard thy petitions, and he hath also delivered thee out of the hands of the enemy, and the angel of thy presence hath warded off the shaft of the Adversary which hath been hurled at thee, and thou hast been preserved to complete thy work upon the earth and to fill up the measure of thy creation.
Therefore, I say unto thee be of good faith and of good cheer, for better days await thee. Thou shalt be blessed spiritually and temporally, and the righteous desires of thy heart shall be granted thee: and thy name shall be held in honorable remembrance and honored down from generation to generation, and written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
This, with all thy former blessings I seal upon thy head and I seal thee up unto Eternal life, to come forth in the morning of the first resurrection. Even so, Amen.
