Charles Livingston - Partriarchal Blessing
Salt Lake City, Utah. November 22nd, 1862
A blessing given by Patriarch John Young, on the head of Charles Livingston, son of Archibald and Helen Livingston, born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, March 16, 1835. Given in Salt Lake City, November 22, 1862.
Brother Charles I lay my hand upon your head to bless you and seal upon your head the blessings of the Holy Gospel which you have received in your youthful days. With a full determination to live the life of the righteous and to do good in your day and generation and help build up that Kingdom and you have done it with an honest heart, and I feel to bless you and say you shall be blessed all the days of your pilgrimage on the earth. Inasmuch as you will do right the blessings of the heavens and the blessings of the earth and the blessings of the prophets of God and of the righteous shall rest upon your head. You are a lawful heir to the priesthood which you shall hold a fullness of. You are a literal descendant of Joseph and one of those that knew the joyful sound of the everlasting Gospel. The blessings of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob shall be upon you. You shall have wives and children and a numerous posterity upon the earth and they shall be blessed in their generations. You shall have houses and lands and flocks and herds for this is the heritage of the sons of Jacob. Have power to govern and control yourself and your household and to honor the Holy Priesthood and become a mighty man in Israel filled with the power of the Holy Priesthood and the Holy Comforter shall rest upon you, which shall lead you into truth and bring all things to your remembrance and show you things to come. Your name shall be honorable among the Elders of Israel and be a blessing to your father's house and to your forefathers and to all you are associated with and you shall be a preacher of righteousness. You may be called upon by the voice of the Spirit through his servants to go forth and bear your testimony and gather up the last sheep of the house of the house of Israel; and the wicked shall tremble before you and the righteous shall rejoice at the sound of your voice. You may pass through straightened place—or circumstances, but no evil shall befall you, many may fall upon your right and upon your left but there shall always be a way for your escape. I seal upon you the blessing of health and of life and say you shall live on the earth to a good old age and assist in building up the Kingdom and live to be gathered up to the center stake of Zion and assist In building up the Temples of the Lord and your eyes shall gaze upon them and your heart rejoice that you are gathered from Babylon and numbered among the house of Israel. Have power to secure to yourself and your kindred an everlasting inheritance in the new heavens and new earth. I seal uponyour head a Holy Resurrection and say you shall come forth clothed upon with your Priestly Garments and be a Savior upon Mount Zion to officiate in the Holy Ordinances for the restoration of your forefathers. All these blessings and all that your heart desires in righteousness shall rest upon your head even until you have a fullness of joy. I do it according to the Holy Order and Sealing Power which binds on earth and binds for heaven in the name of Jesus Christ.
