Ancestor Research Report
Prior to the board meeting, Kay Livingston Larsen sent the following email to the board:
- In 1992 I went with a family group (including Enid Cox) to Scotland where we visited Dumfermline and Bill and Jean Livingstone. While we were there a Scottish sister joined us who had served a mission in California where my dad Lewis Livingston was the mission president.
- Today that Scottish sister who is visiting Utah stopped by to see my dad, her former mission president. She was accompanied by a friend, also from Scotland, named Brenda. We showed a video of our visit to Bill and Jean in Dumfermline. Brenda was astonished that we were showing her pictures of the street where she lives.
- I then learned that Brenda is a professional genealogist, accredited in Scottish research. I told her that we were trying to find family names and asked about looking for the 9 children that Granny left in Scotland and their descendants such as Bill Livingstone. (I was talking off the top of my head and I now see that we have done the work for those 9 children but as far as I know we do not have much on their descendants, our cousins.) Brenda said that she thought she could find these people for us or whatever we wanted her to do in Dumfermline. She has ready access to the census and other records in Scotland and to Ancestry.com. Her son is the head guy (CEO? pres?) of Ancestry.com.
- Brenda left me her contact information in case we want a skilled Scottish researcher who lives on site and is a Mormon. Her general retainer is $1000, she keeps track of her time and we may get money back. I am really impressed with Brenda who talked easily for a long time about the places, the records, the ways to research, and the life of the people in Scotland for the past 200-300 years.
- Does the family association want to invest in this research? Perhaps we have different questions that we would like to ask someone than I posed. I was simply scrambling when the occasion arose and I was very excited and wanted to feed her something to comment on. Brenda is in Heber City/Midway until the end of May visiting her son, but she could begin her research here and now because of their computer program and hopefully leave us some new names before she goes back to Scotland. I told Brenda that I would run this up the flagpole and see what happens, but that I would let her know.
- I would love to see some Livingston research in the hands of someone who might be able to find more ancestral names. What do you think?
- Kay Livingston Larsen
The board discussed the possibility of having this research done, and Ross Livingston suggested that her cost be compared to the going rate.
- Kay will check on this and if it is comparable, we will authorize the researcher to start the search.
- Dana will provide Kay with information about where to start and what has already been done.
Newsletter and Mailing List Report
- Charlene will prepare the postcard as a reminder of the reunion and with Ross’ help, send to email recipients
- Charlene will send information to Enid
- Enid will print and mail postcards to those who receive snail mail. (This needs to be done before Memorial Day as we are leaving town for Memorial Day weekend as well as May 30th (Alaska) and will be gone the whole next week)

Postscript
Charlene Clark asks:
- Have you ever heard of speed dating? You have lots of people in a room, set up tables or chairs across from each other. You have 90 seconds or 2 minutes to find out everything you can about that person, then you rotate to the next spot. We could have questions in case they can't find something to talk about...
- how do you descend from Archibald.
- Tell me about one of your livingston relatives etc., etc., etc.
- We do this as speed visiting for YM/YW and it is really fun. It is a great way to get to know a lot of people in a very short amount of time. Who can't carry on a conversation for 90 seconds.
